Is Your Brand Connecting With the Right People or Getting Lost in the Crowd?

I’ve met many women over the years rocking their businesses with impressive offerings, only to find their brand and/or website looking unrefined and out of date, as though it were an afterthought.

Or maybe it looks fine, but it feels generic, templated, or like it could belong to almost anyone in your industry.

Now more than ever, people are conscious of their time, especially regarding the “endless scroll.” They’re seeking community, connection, and meaning in the brands they follow and interact with.

And with AI making it easier than ever to generate logos, websites, images, and content, simply looking good isn’t enough.

People are seeing more and more of the same, which makes having a distinct point of view and visual presence even more important.

This means you have a small window to attract and connect with prospective clients and customers. Remember, connection starts with trust.

So, if your brand identity looks beginner, outdated, or generic rather than reflecting the level of your work, you may miss out on potential business.

The hard truth is that we’re all judged on first impressions. You don’t have to be a designer to see the difference between a brand that has taken the time to nail its identity and one that hasn’t.

Why does this matter?

Because a business that shows it cares about every touch point and every visual element, from its logo suite, typography, color palette, supporting graphics, website, and photography to its social media, services guide, email signature, newsletter, packaging, and more, shows that same level of care in how it approaches its work.

Not sure where your brand identity stands?

Here are seven questions to help you evaluate and envision your ideal brand identity:

  1. What is the essence of my brand? Define your brand's core values, mission, and purpose. What do you stand for, and what sets you apart from competitors? Clarifying your brand's essence will inform all other aspects of your brand identity.

  2. Who is my target audience? Understand your target audience's demographics, interests, and pain points. Go beyond the basics and think about what resonates with them and how your brand identity can connect with the people you actually want to work with.

  3. Does my brand still feel like me? Businesses evolve because we evolve. Think about the personality and characteristics you want your brand to embody now. Does what you have still represent who you are and the level of work you’re doing, or does it feel like a version of your business you’ve outgrown?

  4. What emotions do I want my brand to evoke? Identify the emotions you want your brand to evoke in your audience. Do you want them to feel inspired, empowered, reassured, intrigued, or something else? Emotions play a significant role in how people perceive and remember your brand.

  5. Does my brand look distinct, or could it belong to anyone? Consider your colors, typography, imagery, logo, and overall design style. Do these elements feel specific to you and your business, or are they following the same trends, templates, and AI-generated aesthetic you’re seeing everywhere else?

  6. How does my brand communicate? Determine the tone of voice and communication style that best represents your brand. Does the way you communicate actually sound like you? Your visuals and your words should feel like they’re coming from the same place.

  7. How does my brand express itself across different touchpoints? Evaluate how your brand identity translates across your logo, website, social media, marketing materials, photography, and client experience. Consistency matters, but so does making sure all of those pieces feel connected to who you are now.

Your brand should be intentional, thoughtful, and cohesive to attract your ideal clients and customers.

Because there’s nothing worse than handing out a business card or directing someone to your website and feeling embarrassed by what they’re about to see.

Reevaluating your brand identity is also an opportunity to rethink your services, refine your offerings, and make sure your business represents where you are now.

Ultimately, the real question is: Does my brand identity attract the people I want to work with, or is it quietly pushing them away?
